SPCA Tip Tuesday! Did you know that virtually every cat will be exposed to Parvo at some point in its life? Here is the good news, we can all make a difference in controlling this virus by vaccinating our pets.Panleukopenia also known as Distemper or Parvo can last a year indoors at room temperature. It can live through freezing temperatures and even after cleaning with common disinfectants. Infection occurs when the virus enters the nose or mouth. Whether illness results or not depends on your cat’s immunity. Infected cats can spread the virus through all body secretions including, feces, urine, vomit, or even shedding. Our friends at Veterinary Community Outreach offer low-cost vaccine clinics in our area. Check out their website or visit their Facebook page for more information. veterinarycommunityoutreach.com#SPCAtiptuesday #parvoseason #vaccinate#onamisionforpetsandpeople #comegrowwithus ... Out of an abundance of caution, we are suspending cat adoptions until further notice. Despite being fully vaccinated, a kitten tested positive for parvo/distemper. We have placed the rest of our adoptable kitties under observation to ensure they were not negatively impacted by any secondary exposure. If you’re in the market for a kitty prior to our quarantine being lifted, we encourage you to reach out to our partners The Community Cat Alliance, Frederick County-VA Esther Boyd Animal Shelter, Clarke County Humane Foundation, Humane Society of Warren County, Dakota's Dream Animal Rescue.. It's kitten season and we're sure our partners have plenty of kitties. We will remain open for all other services to include dog adoptions. Thank you.#parvoseason#kittenseason #vaccinateyourpetsplease ... See MoreSee Less
