Winchester Area SPCA & Thrift Shop

The Winchester Area SPCA is a 501c3 nonprofit that relies on a strong volunteer force.

Volunteer opportunities are available for those age 16 and over at the WASPCA thrift shop.

Those 18 and over may volunteer at the WASPCA adoption center. Volunteer opportunities include kennel cleaning, pet care, laundry, dish washing, mopping, scrubbing, special events, and taking dogs out for Adventure Tails!

All WASPCA volunteers are required to become Fear Free Shelters Certified. There is no charge to the volunteer to receive this certification.

To volunteer, please complete our online application form or download a printable volunteer application form. Downloaded forms can be returned to volunteercoordinator@winchesterspca.org. The volunteer coordinator’s office is located at the WASPCA Adoption Center 111  Featherbed Lane or call 540-662-8616.

Paws & Pages Shelter Pet Reading Program

Readers of all ages are invited to drop in Tuesday to Friday, 10AM to 5PM to read to the shelter pets. Books are provided, or bring one of your own. Readers under 18 must have a parent present at all times. No application is needed to read to shelter pets.

The Adventure Tails Program

The Adventure Tails Program allows approved volunteers to take shelter dogs out of the shelter environment for short term field trips.

The goal of the program is to provide exercise and socialization outside of the shelter to decrease the stress level of the dog and to make them more adoptable.

The volunteer participating must fill out a Volunteer Application, read the Adventure Tails Manual, and sign the Agreement and Release Form. The
volunteer must be Fear Free Shelters certified and approved by the WASPCA Volunteer Coordinator and BE Coordinator.
