The Winchester SPCA is honored to bring back our Mascot of the Year project! This year, the shelter will host both a canine and feline mascot.

Meet Hawthorne Walker! Hawthorne was awarded the canine mascot of the year title at our annual meeting which was held in March. Hawthorne’s professional photoshoot with Jgaylor studio just wrapped up and he’s ready for his debut!

Fun facts about Hawthorne:

  • He was one of eleven pups born to a mom that was rescued by Martin’s Dog Farm just one day before giving birth.
  • Hawthorne was immediately a protector as he made sure the runt, Marshall, made it to dinner every day by pushing other pups out of the way.
  • His mother and three siblings (including Marshall) live close by and keep in touch.
  • Hawthorne is going to be five on July 15, 2022.
  • He is a mix but mostly Walker Treeing Coonhound.
  • Hawthorne loves bones filled with peanut butter and long walks.
  • He recently lost a toe to cancer but thanks to Dr. Mary Margaret Applin, DVM, he is cancer-free and ready for healthy happier days ahead.

Hawthorne’s mom is so happy to have the love of her life be the canine face of the SPCA this year!

During his reign as the canine mascot of the year, he will be featured in social media advertising and on the Winchester SPCA webpage throughout 2022. A larger-life-version cut out of Hawthorne will be featured at the SPCA adoption center and taken to local events and happenings to promote the mission of the Winchester SPCA.
